Animal and Human Health Care - Biotechnology may have applications in animal and human health care either indirectly or directly. Its indirect significant role involves manufacture of nutritional food through single cell proteins and in detecting food contaminants through molecular probes, etc.

Its direct and more important use, on the other hand, involves efforts 1 to overcome the menace due to a variety of diseases which can be discussed at four levels of manipulation:

(i) providing immunity against a disease through development of a vaccine,
(ii) diagnosis of a disease at early stage of its onset,
(iii) treatment of the disease and
(iv) fertility control. These three aspects of dealing with animal and human diseases will be briefly discussed in this section.
