Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) - Trademarks - A trademark is a word, or symbol "adopted and used by a manufacturer or merchant to identify his goods and distinguish them from those manufactured or sold by others" in biotechnology research, laboratory equipment bears trademarks that are well known to workers in this field.

Certain vectors useful in recombinant research are also known by their trademarks. Although ordinarily this intellectual property may not raise any legal issue, it docs make a part of intellectual property of any industry.
