Ribosomal RNAs: Ribosomal RNA operons are designated rrnA, B,C and so forth, depending on the number of gene sets in the particular genome. In most chloroplasts there is one operon in each segment of the inverted repeat. These are normally identical in sequence. By convention, rrnA is on the right side of the chloroplast DNA restriction map with the large single copy region at the top, The rbcl gene is on the left side. Each operon normally includes genes for 16S rRNA, 23S rRNA, 5S rRNA, and 4.55 rRNA.
