Pleurotus spp.- These Dhingri mushrooms are grown on chopped paddy, wheat or rye straw, wood logs, crushed maize cobs, chopped grasses, etc. Chopped substrate, e.g., paddy straw, is soaked in water for 8-12 hr, washed, and filled in wooden trays (1 x ½ ¼ m) after the excess water is drained.

The spawn is sprinkled on the surface of substrate, the trays are covered with a polythene or newspaper and water is sprayed as needed to maintain humidity.

The cover is removed once the fruiting bodies begin to appear in about 10-15 days, which may continue up to 30-45 days thereafter. The temperature of room is maintained at 25+-5°C and humidity is kept around 85-90%. The mushrooms are harvested when the caps become 8-10 cm in size.
