Batch Digestors - These are suited for digestion of solid wastes, where hydrolysis occurs in a solid bed, and the leachate is circulated through a methanogenic digester and back over the solid waste bed. A series of such reactors can be used for large scale operations. Landfill sites are a type of low cost batch digesters. These sites are pits filled with solid domestic refuge and covered with soil.
