Production of Bioethanol- At present, there are three important routes for producing bioethanol:

(i) from starch or sugar crops,

(ii) from cellulose following enzymatic hydrolysis and

(iii) from cellulose following chemical hydrolysis.

At present, the cost of production from the three routes is comparable. However, commercial production is based on starch and sugar crops only; there is no full scale production plant based on cellulose
