Advantages of Embryo Transfer in Cattle
Following are the advantages of the technique of embryo transfer:

(1) Embryo transfer increases the reproductive capacity of a superior heifer or a cow (sometimes their number is limited, since they are imported), since semen from one male can be used for a large number of females, and because a single superior female can be made to give a large number of ovules through the technique of superovulation.

(2) Old superior cows, that are unable to maintain pregnancy can still donate ovules for embryo transfer.

(3) We may not need to import cows but only the frozen embryos (frozen embryos can be stored for 10 years or more without losing viability), and grow them in surrogate mothers.
It is much cheaper than importing cows. The newly developing offspring also develop an immune system to deal with pathogens in the new environment.

(4) Embryos can be frozen and preserved in an embryo bank and used whenever required.

(5) Embryo transfer can be used to expedite the progeramme of bull testing.
