Dialysis - The fermenter may contain a chamber separated by a selectively permeable membrane. This membrane allows the product to diffuse from the fermentation chamber into the dialysis chamber only (one way diffusion) from where the product is recovered while the fermentation continues.
This approach has been used for the removal of lactic acid during fermentation by Lactobacillus delbrueckii.
