Isolation of Genes - During the last two decades significant progress has been made in the techniques for isolation of a variety of genes, including those for

(i) ribosomal RNA,

(ii) specific protein products;

(iii) phenotypic traits with unknown product and those for

(iv) regulatory functions e.g. promoter genes, etc.

Different techniques have been used for the isolation of these different types of genes and will be briefly described in this section.
