Maps -
Several computer programmes are currently available for the construction of multipoint linkage maps. These programmes are used extensively for a variety of animals and plants.
(i) In 1985, LINKAGE was used for preparation of several maps.
(ii) In 1987, MAPMAKER and CRI-MAP became available and were found to be more useful than LINKAGE and were used for mapping several chromosomes in humans, mouse and several plant materials. CRI-MAP takes advantage of more genotypic data, inferring genotypes, wherever possible.
Regardless of computer programme, LOD scores are used for quickly finding the best genetic order for large number of loci. (For LOD scores). It has been shown that the various computer programmes produce maps with comparable genetic orders.
