Allopolyploidy - Allopolyploids contain two or more distinct or different genomes. These are formed from sets of chromosomes of different species. These are also called as amphidiploids. Allopolyploid seems to playa vital role in speciation of plants.

Artificial production of allopolyploids is called as the synthesis of somatic hybridization and the allopolyploids are called as synthetic allopolyploids. Allopolyploids are more vigorous than parental species and have unpredictable combinations of parental features.
