Lac Operon - The lac operon model was proposed by Jacob and Monad in 1961 to suggest the possible way of answering how a bacteria metabolizes the lactose. Lac operon functions only when lactose is present in the media.

Lac operon basically consists of the following

(i)Regulator Gene

(ii)Promoter Gene

(iii)Operator Gene

(iv)Structural Gene
