Regulator Gene - The regulator gene codes for a protein (360 AA), which is called as repressor. If the lactose is present in the media, lactose binds to the repressor. The repressor fails to bind the operator gene. If lactose is absent, the repressor binds to the operator gene. Lac repressor is a tetramer consisting of identical subunits.
