Disarming -
The deletion of genes governing auxin and cytokinin production (the oncogenes) from T-DNA of a Ti plasmid is known as disarming. The cells containing such a modified T-DNA are non-tumorous and readily regenerate plantlets.
Gene transfers, therefore, routinely utilize disarmed pTi and pRi. But in some plant species, e.g., soybean, the efficiency of transformation by disarmed pTi is much lower than that by wild type pTi.
