Lipofection of Introduction of DNA into cells via liposomes is known as lipofection. Lipofection is the method of choice for DNA delivery into animal cells cultured in vitro. It was also one of the first methods of DNA delivery into plant protoplasts.

Transformation frequencies of 4 x 10 5 have been reported. However, higher transformation frequencies with PEG and electroporation make them more attractive.
