Problems in Gene Transfer - Many transgenes are expressed at low levels, which usually limits their usefulness. The reasons for a low level of expression may be inadequate promoter activity, length of the transgene, the sequence of transgene or even the cellular compartment in which the transgene encoded enzyme is targetted.

A reduced transgene expression due to the sequences present with the transgenes themselves is likely to be encountered when prokaryotic genes are expressed in plants.
